Weekend Preview: 12/16-17

We've got yet another weekend following an early week dump in the north and another storm possibly coming in on Monday which could bring some precipitation into the Northeast on Sunday afternoon. There are some questions about what is going to happen to the pow that fell in parts of NY and VT for the weekend, and if you were hunting used pow in the last two weekends some of you likely found some sticky snow while others found some softened terrain that was icy before and became pretty sweet. Will that happen again? Well, without a lot of other stuff going on this weekend my focus will be on the snow quality and edgeability. This is just a preview though and Friday morning we'll put out maps with higher confidence for what you will experience on the slopes.

As far as snowmaking temperatures go, we got back into the snowmaking zone on Tuesday right behind that storm. Starting Monday night there will have been a great 4-5 nights of snowmaking all over and in some cases at least 4 days straight through. We should see plenty of openings by Saturday, especially in NY, PA, NJ, and Southern New England where they have been waiting for those snowmaking windows to arrive. This should also give already operating ski areas a chance to add some more terrain. So acreage should grow from where it is right now allowing people to space out some more.

In this Weekend Preview we're going to step through where natural terrain will be in play, where packed powder groomers can be found, where things will remain icy and get skied out, and where things will soften up in the mornings and afternoons and become nicely edgeable. We'll talk also about the potential rain coming into parts of the area on Sunday.
