And then there were 9!

Spring Skiing Operations Update

We've prepared a summary of operational information for all 9 Northeast ski areas that will be offering lift-serviced skiing and riding through at least this coming weekend including details regarding terrain and ticket pricing. This is likely to be the last week of operations for 4 ski areas, Gore, Mount Snow, Stowe, and Wildcat. Through April 28th only Killington, Jay Peak, and Sugarloaf will be operating daily with Sunday River and Sugarbush joining in for weekend operations. After Sunday May 5th (Cinco de Mayo) we will be down to just Jay Peak for one more weekend and of course Killington operating Fri-Sun until they melt out which which will likely be sometime in early June.

Generally speaking terrain availability is robust for this time of year and snow has widely corned up and is skiing and riding great, though we recommend wider skis and stiffer snowboards for the corn harvest, some liquids and protein for the grill, and some funky sunglasses and outfits for the trails. We're past the point of needing to pay special attention to sticky snow except when substantial new snow falls (and we may well see some of that). There are still 7 more weeks of lift-serviced skiing and riding in the Northeast!

🏆
For those without pass coverage we currently recommend Gore, Jay Peak, Sunday River, and Sugarloaf based on value. Regardless of pass coverage Killington Stowe, and Sugarloaf are offering substantial amounts of terrain this weekend.

Gore Mountain: Fri-Sun 4/19-21

Gore is going to operate only upper mountain terrain by uploading and downloading by way of the gondola. These three days are likely to be the last 3 days of skiing and riding in New York for the season. Variable coverage is likely to be seen on many trails in typical last weekend fashion. The number of trails and acreage are not known at this time and this weekend's operations are technically only projected at this time. Their plans are likely to be published on or before Thursday morning in their snow report. Lift tickets range from $48 to $65 when purchased in advance.

Mount Snow: Open Daily through Sun 4/21

Mount Snow is operating daily through this Sunday with operations only over at their Carinthia base. They have 9 trails with park features on two of them, and essentially 4 full runs with a few alternates. They claim 99 acres but this is surely due to counting all of Long John and Deer Run which are not fully open. More detail is available in their snow report and tickets trough this weekend are $116 when purchased in advance.

Killington: Open Daily through Sun 5/5 and Fri-Sun Until Approximately June 1st

The Beast of the East is currently offering 5 lifts, 75 trails and 281 acres of terrain across their Ramshead, Snowdon, K-1, and Skye peaks. There are a handful of glades still open and some natural snow terrain along with a park at Ramshead where this will be the last planned weekend of operations in that pod. Take note that there is road construction on their access road from now through July requiring a small detour on West Hill Road just to the east off of Rt. 4. More information is available on their snow report. Lift tickets through this weekend currently range from $114 to $123 though they are also selling a spring pass.

Sugarbush: Open Daily through 4/21 and Sat-Sun Until 5/5

Sugarbush is down to just the Super Bravo quad, likely through the end of the season which operates 10AM-5PM. They're offering 14 trails and 73 acres with details available on their snow report. Lift tickets currently cost between $119 and $129 when purchased in advance, however if you are a new Ikon Pass holder for next season you can ski Sugarbush on next seasons' pass.

Stowe: Open Daily through Sun 4/21

Stowe will operate both their FourRunner Quad and Sunrise six-pack through closing day with 55 trails and 282 acres of terrain according to their Twitter/X mountain operations account which differs distinctly at this time with the information on their website. Lift tickets through this weekend currently run $152 when purchased in advance.

Jay Peak: Open Daily through Sun 4/28 and Sat-Sun Until Possibly 5/13

Jay is currently operating 8 of 9 lifts and will also spin up the Flyer Fri-Sun if the snow holds over there. They are operating currently on 38 trails including 5 glades and 1 park and more details are available as always on their snow report. Lift tickets run $99 when purchased in advance however you can ski through the end of the season on next seasons' pass.

Wildcat: Open Fri-Sun 4/19-21

Wildcat's operating plans are not certain, but it is likely they will only be running the Wildcat Express to the summit and last weekend they had 19 out of 48 trails open and probably will not have lost much of that by the time they reopen. Details may not be available until Friday morning on their snow report. Lift tickets currently run $93 when purchased in advance.

Sunday River: Sat-Sun 4/20-21 & 4/27-28

Sunday River will be operating exclusively out of the Jordan base with the Jordan 8 servicing up to 7 trails (not including the access trails). Details will likely become available by Friday morning on their snow report. Tickets currently run $69 online this weekend, $59 next Saturday, and Sunday the 28th is a free day! If you buy a New England Pass for next season you can ski through the end of this season on that pass as well.

Sugarloaf: Open Daily through 5/5

Sugarloaf is currently operating 5 lifts servicing 105 trails and 532 acres of terrain claiming the most open terrain by quite a bit in the East with more details on their snow report. Their full spring schedule for lift operations is available here. Tickets currently run $41 to $58 when purchased in advance. If you buy a New England Pass for next season you can ski through the end of this season on that pass as well.
