Royal mountain was near 100% open this last weekend after quickly slathering their trails with a manmade base of 2 feet with their snowmaking on 70% of their trails and they also received over 3 feet of snow during that cycle that allowed ropes to drop on their other trails and also their glades. Yes, glades! Royal Mountain features 575' of vertical with 12 trails, 5 glades, 1 park, and 4 lifts spanning 70 acres. Don't let their size fool you, Royal offers appropriate terrain for first-timers, to beginners, intermediates, and advanced skiers and riders. It's perfect sized for progressing kids and adults who are refining their skills and we in fact sampled their deep snow on Sunday and had a blast, so look out for our trip report on Wednesday.‎

Royal sits on the upslope from the Mohawk Valley into the Adirondacks which gives them quite a boost on snowfall when the snow is driven by wind from the south, and they get lake effect also. When it stays cold after storms that midweek powder that falls will be waiting for you on Saturday for a second chance. When Mother Nature isn't as kind, owner Jake Tennis lights up his fleet of fan guns that line the ski area to resurface the steeper trails in order to give a reliable edgeable surface.‎

We do hope to add more gems like Royal to our mix to give skiers and riders convenient and super-affordable options closer to home. At just $30 to give Royal a try, you really can't go wrong!‎
