While this storm will bring heavy snow, sleet, freezin r@!n, and r@!n to the Northeast on Saturday and Sunday, it will also bring with it wind that will impact lift operations on Sunday through Wednesday which will at times be severe. I am going to split up this storm into the front end which will be just Saturday and Sunday, and then I will also start publishing Back End Updates starting on Friday covering Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for both snow and wind impacts.
Let's start with the broad view from the latest ECMWF covering Saturday through Monday.

Many people love snowfall maps, and here's the latest 48 hour snowfall map from the ECMWF at 10:1 ratios, but you really need to be careful and not be fooled by your weather apps or the snowfall maps as that is only part of the weather we will be seeing, and weather apps often will report sleet and freezing r@!n as snow adding to the confusion.

When I say "don't just hunt the snowfall map" there are generally three reasons why:
1) People Are a Condition!
2) Wind Is Also a Condition!
3) Freezing R@!n and R@!n Are Conditions Too!
Our subscribers already know that we have wind hold concerns from Sunday through Wednesday with potentially severe and widespread holds on Monday and Tuesday. This is also a holiday weekend and that means people will be a condition too. Then there's the freezing r@!n map from the ECMWF to go along with the snowfall map (this is not a forecast, it's just what the models shows currently):

This is a major winter storm with notable impacts during a busy holiday period. I'm going to cover the Snowfall Forecast through Sunday, the Wind Hold forecast for Sunday, and I will provide some additional information about the impacts on the back end of this storm for both wind and snow. I will also give my Top Picks for Sunday so that you can dodge the mixed precipitation and the crowds, and find the pow!
