Welcome to the Northeast, home of some of the most extreme winter weather on the continent. This is not a test, nor is it a challenge that you need to rise up to.
I don't hype weather, but when our weather becomes extreme I try to make sure skiers and riders are appropriately prepared and I'm not going to sugarcoat what we have in store. This is going to be a rough ride through Tuesday with a very strong cutter moving through New York on Sunday with a combination of snow, sleet (tons of it), freezing r@!n, r@!n, and the strongest winds we have seen in quite some time that will halt almost all operations at some ski areas for 2-3 days. This is coinciding with a busy holiday weekend. I'm not overstating this. Plan accordingly.
Here's the storm according to the GFS from 7AM Saturday through 7AM on Tuesday.

I'm going to break this forecast down into two sets of days this time with the Saturday-Sunday Forecast, the Monday-Tuesday Forecast. I will cover snowfall, precipitation types, wind holds, and travel guidance in both sections. For those new to Snowology we are not simply weather, it's ski weather with a focus on the aspects of the weather that impact conditions, operations, and travel, and we are unique in our space.
