Damn. It was largely a fantastic weekend with corn galore, tutus, and t-shirts, sans the Sunday r@!n in western areas and a number of wind issues. I'm afraid our precious snow is melting though, and I actually broke out my lawnmower. It's too early for that! Winter was so great across the region, so what happened?
Our snowpack in the northern areas never iced up and it was lacking density. Throw in 'Fiery Four' of high humidity, high wind, and very warm temps without an overnight refreeze and it disappears quick. Snowpack can last a long time when temps reach 40F during the day and refreeze overnight. I'm afraid this event was a kiss of death for snowpack and we have now lost 17 tracked ski areas for the season.

I know what the diehard snow lovers are thinking though, "hey Matt, throw us a bone because things feel really dire right now." I feel ya, but we're going to run warm until Friday when it looks likely that we will have a snowstorm that could possibly bring upwards of a foot to some parts, then a light system is possible on Sunday, and then the following Tuesday we've got a chance of another real snowstorm (though that's fantasy range for the moment). Friday may be the pattern change we need from the hellish string of weather back to average to slightly below average temperatures and a better storm track. So let's look at the GFS through Sunday in the broad view to start.

I'm going to cover this week with Daily Outlooks, but first I want to highlight an important event this weekend from one of our Snowology Club discount partners.
Stratton's Homesick this Friday-Sunday, March 21-23

I really mean this when I say that the Homesick event by East Street Archives is the biggest on the snow event and party in the Northeast, and it's coming back to Stratton for it's 3rd year starting this Friday with legends, pros, up-and-comers, and YOU. It's old school competition with the OG Downhill race, Powers Retro Pipe, and the Zebulon Rail Jam, and registration is open to the general public. There's a Vintage Board Room to tour snowboarding's history, live music, apres, demos, prizes, and just damn good vibes all around. And no, you don't have to be a snowboarder to go and love it.
More information about the event can be found on Stratton's website.
I also want to remind our subscribers that you can use your Snowology Club discounts to score nicely discounted adult and kid lift tickets for all three days, however lodging is in high demand this close to the event. Stratton has no limit for the number of times our subscribers use discounts this season.

Oh, and one other thing, I'll be there also, and not because I'm primarily a snowboarder but because it is awesome!
