The Snowology Roadmap

Imagine finishing dinner at 7PM and you get a notification on your phone and/or an email alerting you to the next 3 days of weather with detail about your 5 favorite mountains along with maps, simulated radar, and an overview of a coming storm. That's our vision for what will happen by the start of next season.

What you see now on the Snowology site is really just the start despite how far we have come and how useful it is. We are maybe only 20% of the way towards our goals for next November in terms of what you see, and about 50% of the way towards our goals on the back end for weather and operational data with much of what's left involving accuracy refinements. We are currently working on both the Snowology App and also adding in Favorites & Comparison Tools. We will then turn our attention to integrating longer radar loops, future radar, satellite, and then custom weather maps, and over the off-season we will retool our systems to allow us to send out customized emails and app notifications to every subscriber.

All along the way we will also continue to refine both our data and our presentation in fact there isn't a day that goes by without working on improvements. What you see now is just the foundation without the finishing touches but we think it already looks pretty snazzy and more importantly, easy to use and digest. Snowology is ski weather tuned specifically for East Coast skiers and riders.

A Pile of Sticks and Some Twine

If you know what you are doing a little go a long way and Snowology isn't short of knowledge, experience, and resourcefulness. Our development team of Luis, Cole, and Deane along with Matt have over 100 years of software and internet development experience.

A shout out is also due to Will who helps us collect ski area data and Jeff who helped with our API interface and the start of our automation.

Despite this being Snowology's 8th season of forecasting coverage we're still very much just a startup after having launched our subscription service just 2 1/2 years ago as a publication, and 1 month ago with weather automation in our first steps towards also becoming and app. In the last year we have reinvested more than half our gross revenue into just development and our developers currently are working an average of 30 hours a week but with heavy use of AI programming tools our productivity is about 200 hours a week in man hours. Design, planning, documenting, and testing takes more time than the actual coding.

Our staffing goals for the next year are to hire more half-time and even full-time staff focused on front-end development and communications, and our continued growth will help us accomplish these goals.
