While the back end of this last system is still producing snow at this moment, that will lighten up through the night and finish up in the AM on Saturday just as a weak Colorado Low enters the picture from the west and tracks up the St. Lawrence Valley. Stronger storms like this we might call a cutter, but in this case the weaker circulation brings weaker southerlies and it's running into cold air from behind this last system and most open ski areas are likely to stay all snow. Let's look at simulated radar covering the full day on Saturday to set things up.
The storm starts off lower in intensity until the low level jet that feeds moisture into the storm gets near water. The LLJ is that line of thunderstorms that forms in the evening. This is why some storm drop much more snow (and also r@!n) in NH and ME when there is southerly flow attached to a storm that tracks well inland of the Northeast. This storm will be split between both daytime and nighttime so some second helpings will be found on Monday.
I did prepare a Snowfall Forecast for this system and I have an updated Wind Hold Forecast for Saturday and a new one for Sunday though only a handful of issues are expected. I'll start off though with some info on the snow that has already fallen to help subscribers find some non-gnar this weekend.
