Many of you may not know who Dr. Levi Cowan is, but it is because of his work on TropicalTidbits for over a decade that Snowology exists. It is a free to use and voluntary to support resource, and we have supported his individual efforts for years. Still to this day we frequently display model data that is generated by his site. Dr. Cowan is currently a leading researcher and forecaster for the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and so was his wife who was terminated yesterday subsequent to sharing this message as part of cuts which aim to reduce staffing by approximately 50%.

The current administration's goal is to privatize all forecasting and to quelch all climate research in order to ensure that scientific agencies are “wholly in sync with Administration Policy” rather than to preserve NOAA’s mission which is vital to protecting life, property, the environment, and supporting commerce and our economy.
Today Snowology will stand in solidarity with NOAA, their employees, and their mission by being a part of a ‘blackout’. We will not be providing any updates to the impending storm and its effects on skiing, riding, and other forms recreational tourism which is an important driver of many rural economies and the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of individuals across the Northeast and which both Snowology and NOAA are a part of and work to support. All weather coverage both in the United States and globally makes heavy use of data, modeling, and forecasting provided by NOAA.
We fear for the well-being of our nation when even basic science is viewed as the enemy of the regime.
