Weekend Update #1: Sat-Sun 11/15-16

It snowed at Jay, and it snowed a lot! 📷 Jay Peak

I'm just dialing things in with a shorter update focused on the weather coming in Sunday, but I've also got a snowfall map for this back end event that will last through Tuesday evening. Please see yesterday's Weekend Outlook for more details if you haven't already checked that out as I will not be rehashing things that have not changed or confirmed.

It's certainly worth mentioning that we're now seeing reports of 23-34" at Jay Peak in the last 4 days. Stowe is claiming 20" in the last 5 days but that total is actually a bit low as the first two days were under-counted. Down around Sugarbush they've reported just 4" but in reality it is near 16". Keep in mind these are cumulative daily totals and not snow depth. Bolton Valley also has opened Wilderness to uphill travel. If you are uphilling please steer clear of snowmaking and other operations and stick to designated paths.

Operational Updates

Here is a list of changes and confirmations that we have seen since yesterday.

Black Mountain, NH
Erik Mogensen told me today that they are in fact trying to open on Saturday, but they weren't sure as of about noon whether they will be able to just yet. They did already say that opening would be just for Black Mountain season pass holders and Indy Pass holders (not clear if you would be burning a day or not). Keep your eyes peeled to Black Mountain's social media and website this evening. That would make 5 ski areas open this weekend.

Bretton Woods
They did announce opening on Saturday with 1 run down. It's the only green run in the Northeast right now but on opening day almost everything skis about 1 level up from their rating.

Killington
They have announced that Snowdon will be open on Saturday top to bottom, though first chair will be off the gondola still and they expect to drop ropes on Snowdon around 9AM and start spinning their chair.

Sunday River
As of this afternoon they are allowing more confident skiers to ski down to Barker Basin on Sunday Punch but they were still downloading also on Locke. The path is not yet back to the lift but that might change by the morning.

Whiteface
They told me that they may run their lift in the early hours of Sunday in order to combat any potential freezing r@!n before open, and they will be ready to groom just before open if there is a need. It should be snowing lightly by open on Sunday. Conditions probably won't be an issue Sunday, but wind may become lift-threatening by the afternoon.
