Whiteface is a giant among East Coast skiing and riding destinations. Snowology
Skiing or riding at Whiteface on a clear day can be best described as the alpine version of a scenic highway. From the top of the Summit Quad the panoramic views stretch endlessly revealing the rugged beauty of the Adirondack Park with its high peaks blanketed in snow. It's hands down one of the most beautiful places to ski in the East and there are quintessential views from all three peaks. They are also home to the The Slides, which should be on every serious East Coast skier's bucket list, offering 35 acres of inbounds steep and rugged side country accessed off the Summit Quad, but they are only open when the snow is deep and deemed safe for those with appropriate gear as they are aptly named.
Whiteface itself has seen major investments in recent years which include a new mid-mountain lodge and 2 expanded and remodeled lodges, 3 new lifts including The Notch which connects the Bear Den learning base to the main mountain, and notable improvements to snowmaking capacity and efficiency. Whiteface has been absolutely knocking it out of the park this season in building out terrain and even had a record early opening for Lookout Mountain with the fan favorite Wilmington Trail.
They are known as the "Olympic Mountain" having hosted the Winter Olympic alpine skiing events in 1980; the second Olympics hosted at Lake Placid. New York's Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) has upgraded all of their Legacy Sites in order to continue their mission to support and foster both regional and international competition, provide economic benefit to the surrounding communities, and recreational opportunities for all.
